In this piece I project a 1:1 ratio square grid onto a square cut piece of Mylar using the same color gradient used for Instagram as the background color within the lines. The reflected image then becomes distorted to the point where the grid is unrecognizable and resembles a colorful cosmic scene. The concept is to display how the grid, a design structure that has never changed in the course of history, is the foundation of our universe. The colors of Instagram tie into the idea that social media has also become society’s universe and also relies heavily on the grid to function.
